Supporting Children's Vision for Learning

HAND IN HAND EVENTS

By Jeanette Suen

Registered Occupational Therapist (Singapore)

Vision plays an important role in children's academic learning, in particular, reading and writing. Uncorrected / untreated visual problems could affect children's attention, learning and behaviour.

A good pair of spectacles can help a person to see clearly. Yet they cannot improve the other important functions of the eyes, e.g. the ability of the two eyes to work together as a team, the ability to change focus and to move efficiently.

Such functions are vital for a child's effective participation in schoolwork task in the classroom, and especially online home-based learning. In this talk, the function of vision in children's academic learning will be discussed.
